Chihuahua - Ruth - Small - Young - Female - Dog
Ruth was born about 7/24/2011 and weighs 4 or 5 pound. She is too cute for words and is the sweetest little snuggler for the most part. She does get frightened at first or in uncertain situations and can be nippy. So, even though she grew up with children, we feel it best she has an adult only home. She is going to need some house training work as, well, it just wasn't exactly necessary in the environment that she came from if you know what I mean. Her mom is Lila and they are here because there were just too many dogs, cats and kids in a small trailer in a local trailer park. Ruth would love a nice, normal, home this time around. Oh, also, these little dogs sometimes struggle throughout life with house training and may benefit from have a potty floor pad available for those times she has to go quickly.
Update from foster mom: Ruth is one of our favorite fosters! She has so much personality and is so funny. She is a little 7 pound spitfire and tries her hardest to get my older dogs to play. Sometimes they go along with it, and it is great to see my senior dogs playing. She adds so much life to this house. Ruth loves to flop over on her back for you to rub her belly and snuggling with you on the couch on a nice soft blanket is her favorite thing in the world. Ruth is pretty good with potty training but as with most little dogs, if you don't get her outside when she is ready she may have an accident. She is very good about using potty pads for those occasions we don't get outside in time. When we do take her out if we say 'Hurry up, go potty' she knows what that means and goes right away. She sleeps with me at night under the blankets snuggled up next to me and I often wonder how she breathes and how hot she must be but she LOVES it and she doesn't move all night until I am ready to get up in the morning. She loves to snuggle in the morning and is not a morning person. She does her business immediately when we take her out in the morning. She is a good eater, not fussy, and she just nibbles on food throughout the day. She is not a big barker but if she sees something outside the window or hears a loud noise she will bark. She gets along great with my other dogs, and I took her to my friends the other day with a big fenced in yard and 3 dogs of her own and Ruth got along with all of them. She loved running free in the yard playing with the other dogs. Ruth definitely likes to be the boss. Her favorite toy is her squeaky furry frog, and she will run and get her toy all day and night if you will keep throwing it. She does very well in a crate just whining a little when we leave but then settles right down, no barking. She walks great on a leash but she has to be in the lead and will bark at bigger dogs when they go by, and we are working on that. Ruth does have a minor eye issue called 'Cherry Eye'. She will always have it, and it will appear at times mainly when she is stressed. It was checked by Joyful Rescues vet, who felt that repairing it surgically could cause dry eye and then she would need eye drops the rest of her life. It is not bad enough to require surgery. If you are looking for a little furry family member that will add love, laughs and fun to your home, Ruth would be the perfect addition.
