Mountain Cur - Ladybug - Large - Adult - Female - Dog
I'm A Tail Wagger! Ladybug was born on April 22, 2007 and weighs about 60 lbs. With her unique coloring, we believe she may be a mix breed of mountain cur, popular in southern states. Ladybug came to us very scared from a high kill southern dog pound. After a little investigating we located her previous owners and learned what her real name was which helped us tremendously in bringing her out of her shell. Her previous owners told us they thought she was part bulldog, but except for her gorgeous brindle coat, she doesn't look anything like one. The owners said they couldn't afford to spay Ladybug and after she had another unwanted litter, they took her and her puppies to the dog pound. Well, those cute puppies were saved by the local rescues but they all left the momma behind to face certain death without a rescue to save her. Wellwe found her and brought her to our safe haven here in New York. Ladybug just loves people of all shapes and sizes. Despite not having any formal obedience and or knowing any commands, she listens very well to her foster mom. So far she has excellent house manners and is about as low maintenance as you can get. She doesn't bark unless she's excited about a squirrel or bunny that she's found in the fields at her foster home. She has a high prey drive instinctive to the breed. She loves hiking out in the woods but when she's home, she wants to be inside with her family. If you have a large fenced yard or country property, it would be heaven for Ladybug. She will not do well in a home that uses a tie-out or some other tethering system because she panics if she gets her legs/feet tangled up. She walks great on leash but will growl at other dogs along a trail or pathway that she encounters and because she also has a dominant personality, Ladybug prefers to be the only dog in the house. Ladybug wags her tail all the time and wiggles happily in your presence. We don't think she knows just how strong she is so if your home has kids, older children would be better. When we spayed Ladybug, we also tested for heartworms which disappointingly came back positive. Luckily we were able to find a clinic with immeticide and she has completed her heartworm treatment and now is ready to find her forever home.
