Shelly was born about August 12, 2003 and weighs about 17 lbs. She looks very much like a Schnauzer but there is some curl to her fur so we guessed Poodle. She has been breeding stock at a puppy mill and, finally, she was released to see how a dog is actually supposed to live and, hopefully, how all her hundreds of pups have been living. Shelly is going to need some time to adjust to a floor, a house, grass and everything else us humans, that are not aware of mills, think all dogs should know. Her 'miller' doesn't seem to be one of the cruelest as she is not afraid of us, just timid and not sure of us. She arrived here as happy as a confused dog can arrive and feel she's going to be a loving companion for someone without too much effort over the normal dog. But, please understand that she is special, may always be special in certain situations and that she is not housebroken. With the mill dogs, and so many other small dogs, it may be a good idea to be open to using floor potty pads.
Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility.
The Adoption Fee for this dog is $250.00.
Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, a 4.5# bag of Science Diet food, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet.
Each Joyful Rescues pet has been thrown away at least once. Pets are not disposable just because your life has changed. Before you decide to bring a pet into your home, make absolutely sure that it will be a lifetime commitment. When our pets leave us we want them to go to their forever homes. By adopting a pet you are not only helping the pet you adopt, but also others in or needing to come into rescue.
