Shepherd - Jonesy Carrolton - Medium - Adult - Male - Dog
They Say Everyone Has a Story.
Jonesy Carrolton was born December 17, 2005 and weighs about 60 lbs. Jonesy is good with other dogs, he will be submissive and it seems he will be good with cats. He has come face to face with them without much interest. He did fine on his 25 minute car ride to us. Jonesy was attacked by another dog a couple years ago and has lived inside only since then. Yes, completely, inside only with extremely little contact with anyone other than his human mother. When I went to see him he had been carried to an outside pen. He was afraid to stand up and clutched the ground. His eyes were dull like no one was home and he tolerated my touch to his shoulder. He was terrified of the ground, the sun, the wind and me. A chain was put around his neck to get him out there and he struggled so hard his mouth was cut and bleeding. He has been here a couple of days now and he is comfortable in his kennel run and comes to the gate, but when I go in he still sits away from me and tries not to look at me. He did, just now, sneak a couple peeks at me and there was just a hint of sparkle in his eyes! What a wonderful feeling that is to see. We have hope, we are glad he is here and we will continue working with him to make him normal or as normal as he can be. When one of you incredible humans comes along and are willing to adopt this gorgeous boy he will probably be set back some and you will be finishing up when we've started. I know one of you are out there - he'll be waiting for you.
Now for why he is here: Jonesy is with us because his human Mom died at about 50 years old, very unexpectantly. His Mom had lived in one mobile home, but the roof collapsed so they pulled in another right beside it. Her husband did not live there with her, he lived out back in the woods. A few months before the lady passed away her adult son and his wife pulled in a small travel camper that they lives in. The younger couple is now being evicted from the property by the husband of the deceased, the young man was his step son. So, now the dogs had to go or they would also be disposed of in whatever way was handy. There was a second dog, Lilly Pearl, who is Jonesy's sister.
In closing, I feel I need to tell you that we've taken about 20 dogs off this property in the last several years. We kept spaying and neutering what she kept keeping and removing what she allowed us to remove, but we just couldn't get ahead of the game. Only the social workers, in our fair nation, can understand how horrific some of these situations are. I'm sure we visit the same homes over and over just as they do. There are times when you see some of this stuff that it sucks the life right out of you for awhile.
Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility.

Each Joyful Rescues pet has been thrown away at least once. Pets are not disposable just because your life has changed. Before you decide to bring a pet into your home, make absolutely sure that it will be a lifetime commitment. When our pets leave us we want them to go to their forever homes. By adopting a pet you are not only helping the pet you adopt, but also others in or needing to come into rescue.
Because these pets are in our homes, for our personal safety before visiting, you must fill out the application on-line at www.joyfulrescues.org (you MUST provide references including a vet reference along with phone numbers) or for further questions you can e-mail [email removed]
